Bad boys are irresistible, from James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, to Harrison Ford as Hans Solo, to Johnny Depp as the outrageous Captain Jack Sparrow.

The character of a bad boy appeals on a deep, sensual level. They are dangerous, fearless, irreverent, and, we, as the women who know them so well, know that deep down they're really the good guys. And, can be so infuriatingly fun!

Bad boys tend to be charmers, are often very good at their professions, and read people very well, giving us what we want.

According to Cosmopolitan’s article on this topic we “crave a little mystery and danger.” Bad boys may feed our own desire to rebel, to do what we really want

Han and Leia from Star Wars:

“You like me because I'm a scoundrel. There aren't enough scoundrels in your life.”

“I happen to like nice men.”

“I'm nice men.”

“No, you're not….” And Han gets his first kiss.

Bad boys are anything but predictable and rarely, if ever, boring. They are intense and we crave that in a relationship (although the fire is usually hard to keep burning.)

Granted, there are bad boys and then there are bad boys. Men who are what is known as having the Dark Triad (narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellism, Psychology Today) can be harmful to our lives in the short and long term, leaving us after they have conquered. One of the dark consequences of following bad guys is that we may ignore the nice guys waiting in the wings  who love us. Perhaps we are wise to find a guy with a charming wild side, especially in the bedroom, but who is capable of committing and loving on a long term genuine level.

Sam, in Unforgettable, soon discovers that there is nothing more powerful than being intensely desired, and that is one of the things bad boys do very well. Find out more about Sam and the good guys and the one extraordinary bad boy, Jack Nolan, in her life.
